I thought it'd be fun to write a blog in English sometime. Recently, I have been applying to some international jobs and despite all the English writing I've done I couldn't really provide much of an English portfolio. Oops. I found two published articles from 2013 though. And my former food blog.
I was raised speaking both English and Dutch. Not because of my heritage, because both my parents are about as Dutch as it gets. My mother, however, was an avid home schooler on school breaks, so I learned to read, write and tell time much earlier than some of my classmates. This resulted in boredom, extra tasks and, inevitably I suppose, a very early interest in other languages. Cartoons weren't dubbed at the time, so I watched Adam's Family re-runs and memorized words at age 6. I spoke English fluently by age 7 and was taken on my first UK trip at age 8. I try to go back to the UK at least once a year, and spent three years between 2013 and 2015 traveling extensively all over the USA.
Combine the travel bug (42 countries and counting!) with this fascination for language and this is the result. Two older articles from 2013. My oh my, did I get better at writing the past 4 years. Progress is exciting, isn't it.
In the end, I wrote for The Underground Newspaper and its successor, ToTen Magazine, for about three years. Mostly online, but these two were actually published and printed. Am I a published author now? :)
